short update!

Hello hello! I think I should blog at least once a month so that whatever writing skills I have left won't disappear! On that same note, I recently realized that I REALLY like editing other peoples writing. All along I thought I liked writing, but I guess I prefer correcting other people's mistakes more. I still love writing though. Plus, you'd have to be a good writer before you can be an editor right? Heh.

Just a short update; I've been working at Underwater World as a marketing coordinator for more than 3 months already! So far it's been not bad.. Like the colleagues alot and time passes VERY fast. But it's just not what I really wanna do. So I've decided to take a degree in mass comm to work towards my dream of being a journalist! Just not sure on the school yet..

Oh ya and also my birthday came and went and now I'm officially 26 years old!! :( time passes too fast man. But really, I'm thankful to God for giving me an almost perfect life and for letting me live these 26 years! I say almost perfect coz there's definitely room for improvement in the money department, but I'm still very thankful nonetheless! <3

Ok, shall try to blog again soon!

near-death experience

I almost would not have been blogging this if things had been any different.

JUST GOT CHASED BY 3 MAD/STRAY DOGS WHILE CYCLING WITH MY BRO AT ECP!!

Thank God my bro was there.

Thank God we pumped the bicycle tires before cycling down to ecp.

Thank God we were not jogging.

Thank God the dogs eventually stopped chasing us.

There's really so many things to thank God for la!!

We were cycling around the dark secluded bend at ECP when the dogs suddenly came out of the bushes, barking wildly.

My first instinct was to scream and cycle faster and my bro was shouting at me to keep peddling faster. I swear that was the FASTEST I ever cycled in my whole life!!

The 3 dogs were abit taller than my knee and they looked like the crazy-and-will-bite-you-asap kind la!! They chased us for about 5mins!! (my bro says it was shorter and that I only think it was 5 mins coz it was a scary situation)

Thoughts going through my head were, "shit I don't wanna die today!", "if only I had a gun", "maybe if I pet them like my friends' dogs they won't bite", "if I don't die of getting bitten I'd probably die of exhaustion cycling" and "GOD PLS HELP US!!!"

That had to be the scariest 5 mins of my life!!

They stopped chasing us when we were reaching the lagoon hawker centre and I immediately told my bro I wanted to take a cab home. Unfortunately the bikes could not fit into the cab so we cycled back. My legs almost gave way when I got off the bike!

Still traumatized now man. My bro still can laugh and say that it was an experience!!

More like a near-death experience la! I so do not wanna be dog food!!

Guess I'm never gonna cycle to ecp at night again.

how to survive a day without twitter/fb

Now I know why I love twitter so much. There are just some things that are too short for an entire blog post but perfect for a one-liner tweet. Like, " I went to church today only to realize that the service was in Chinese!" Yes, true story.

Anyway, I woke up this afternoon and instinctively wanted to check twitter but remembered the promise. So, here's a list of things I've been doing to stop myself from tweeting. (Ya I realized twitter is more important to me than fb)

- Playing words with friends (I'm at maximum capacity already! Playing with as many people as possible)
- Reading CLEO
- Checking out travel packages online
- Blogging (There's not much point of this post other than to stop me from tweeting. Haha.)
- Playing around with my photo apps. Check out the photos!

Aren't those cats cute? I'm not particularly an animal lover but they ALWAYS stick together below my block and one of them even came into my house TWICE before! That's amazing considering I live on quite a high storey. [PhotoComic app]

Isn't this so cute also!?? Mashimaro is one of the few cartoon characters I like! [Mashimaro PT app]

I like this effect alot! [Live FX Lite and Polarize app]

Ok, I've managed to survive through the day! Another couple of hours and I can open my twitter app!! =D

disconnect to connect for a GOOD FRIDAY

The title of my post comes partly from this YouTube video which Eric showed me some time back.

I can't link it coz I'm using my hp to blog but basically it's an ad which brings across the message that people can be physically together yet worlds apart thanks to the very thing which I'm using to blog now.

Technology has gotten so advanced that people all over the world can communicate with each other, yet 2 people can sit next to each other and play with their handphones, not talking at all. Facebook and twitter accounts are updated regularly, but updates in real life are seldom exchanged between friends. I'm sure most of you reading this are guilty of the above! I have 2 friends (namely Cammie and Angele haha) who reply to tweets but not to sms-es!!

That said, I am also guilty of sometimes ignoring group conversations when I meet up with my friends, choosing to play my game (words with friends! Add me! pinkmist02) or update twitter/fb statuses instead. Those who know me know that social media is an integral part of my life and I check twitter feeds at least once every waking hour.

So, in the spirit of good Friday, I have decided to abstain from fb and twitter! For those of you who don't know, good Friday is one of most important days for Catholics coz it's the day Jesus died for our salvation! So we, in turn, make small sacrifices to show our acknowledgement and gratitude.

Yes, I know it might not seem like alot to abstain from fb/twitter (especially when you compare it to someone dying for you) but to me it is coz I'm practically an addict! I hope I make it through the day!! :x

the aging process

I distinctly remember that there was something I so badly wanted to blog about yesterday, but I can't remember what it is for the life of me! My memory is really getting as old as me!! And it's these small things that make me fear growing older.

They say age is just a number, but is it really? I used to think it's ok being mid-twenties, as long as I'm young at heart (haha) but my body is physically telling me I'm old! My memory is getting worse, my back aches after a night of mahjong, I can't go without sleep for a day without feeling tired and my knees hurt when I over exert them!

Totally sounding like an old woman already right? And as if those signs of aging are not bad enough, the people around me make it hard for me to live in my 18 year old world anymore. Of course, it's good that they do coz someone like me definitely needs a reality check! But with all my close friends getting married one by one and one of them even pregnant (congrats Alifya! cant wait to see your kid!!), I suddenly feel scared that I'm.. A grown-up.

When I was younger, I always thought all grown-ups were smart and sensible by default. Like, they hit 21 and are immediately instilled with a sense of responsibility and direction. Unfortunately, it doesn't happen that way. At least not for me. I feel like I'm still stuck with an 18 year-old's mindset and not much has changed.

But I guess eventually, it's actually the experiences we go through which make us wiser (if we choose to learn from them!) and the responsibility part just has to come with being wiser. And I'm lucky that I'm blessed with a great family and friends who are always so supportive while at the same time, advising me on the stuff I should do.

So although I dread this aging thing, life is still good. Can't say the same about my back though..

What's the line between ethical and unethical?

Ok, I was just gonna sleep when this caught my eye in the Facebook live feeds. For those of you who are too lazy too read, basically Mr Brown was more or less ridiculing the Marketing team at Channel News Asia for sending out a mass email asking the recipients to book advertising slots during their coverage on the Japan tsunami. Tons of people have commented on the post, mostly slamming the sender as well, saying he is unethical, insensitive, no compassion, etc.

So, I kinda always prided myself as being quite ethical, but why is it that I feel that CNA is not doing any wrong? Is it really so unethical of them to just do their job?? Advertisements are where they get a main portion of their profits from what! If they're not allowed to earn from bad news, and I bet more than half the news reports are bad, then they might as well just close down! Or just report the good news? I mean, it's not like they're harming anyone or they caused the damn earthquake lor. Like one person commented, their coverage might have made some people aware of the situation or provided information on how to help/donate money. Yes, the email could've been a little more sympathetic instead of gleeful sounding, but come on la, who gives you the right to judge anyway?

I can't stand self-righteous people sometimes. You really feel sad then go there and help or donate a significant amount of money la. I dunno, maybe I just don't see what's so wrong about it.

Anyway, God bless Japan and be thankful we live in a safe country!

me : 10 yrs ago

Omg!! I just read my diary from 10 years back! I thought I hadn't changed much but I was so wrong! I used to be naive, goody-two-shoes and self-righteous to the point that I was kinda a bitch!

To those of you who are thinking, " She's still like that now what!" , HA. HA. Yes, I might still be naive in the sense that I trust people too easily and believe in fairytale romances, but trust me, the me now is NOTHING compared to 10 years ago. It's sad that over the past 10 years the world has corrupted me and I've learnt that things are not always to be seen through rose-tinted glasses, but in a way, I guess it's a good thing too.

Goody-two-shoes? Doubt anyone will call me that now. Self-righteous? I know I have no right to be. So yup, definitely a big change.. But ya la I agree I'm still naive la k!

Time passes so fast it's scary.. How did 10 years just pass like that? And I haven't improved myself in anyway except probably education.

Sigh. I guess it's time to do some reflection on my life. Again.

happy chinese new year!

Time passes so fast doesn't it? After celebrating 26 chinese new years, I realized something funny.

While the normal english new year is full of resolutions and auld lang syne's, chinese new year is all about the gambling, the drinking, and the gluttony!!

I've been eating non-stop since cny eve and trust me, it's not funny how big my tummy had become!!

My colleague even dieted before cny coz he knew cny is a time when the weight will come piling on!

Sigh. I guess it's true that singaporeans live to eat. Time to start an exercise regime again!!!

a little me-time

It was raining heavily after work today so dinner plans were canceled. The weather was so nice that I decided to go home and do some self pampering.

I always loved the concept that I could 'self-spa' at home, with just afew essential items.

shower gel with the loofah followed by a scrub for a nice long warm bath

whitening body lotion bought from beauty buffet in Thailand; smells like vanilla!

And then after that I cooked sardine pasta!! For the second time this month! I'm so awed by the fact that pasta is so easy to cook and I'm so proud of myself that I did not burn my kitchen down! Lol.

doesn't look too bad right?

Ate it while watching the latest episode of [Gossip Girl] and wanted to check out YouTube for some videos on how to do nail art but my brother spoiled my plans by taking over the computer!

So I used my eye mask and fell asleep while using it! And woke up at 5.30am. And here I am. This always happens when I use my sheet masks! Next time really have to leave the masks for the last! Tsk.

Ok gonna try get a little more sleep..

P.s. Sorry if the photos look weird.. Dunno whether the blogging app is good for photos anot..

I'm back!!!!

Oh yes, I know I've not been blogging for a long time. Been busy and lazy as usual! Plus, what with Facebook and twitter, it's so easy to just try and squeeze everything into a one-liner status update.

And not to mention, my computer is so freaking slow! But I found a solution to that! Was sitting at the hairdresser listening to crappy Chinese New Year songs when I thought," iPhone has apps for everything, why not blogging too?" and true enough they did!! So hopefully now I'll be blogging more often!

P.S. This post is specially dedicated to my one loyal reader Jasmine Chng. Lol!! Met the gals for supper just now; totally miss hanging out with them!

The Cathay 75 Years anniversary promo ends with 75 disgruntled patrons

Ok, I know I haven't blogged for very long coz I've been busy and lazy as usual but what happened today made me so pissed off I have to blog about it!!

Jace told me about the promotion where we could get 75 movie tickets for $75 about a month ago, and we were so excited about it that I took leave just to go queue for the tickets which had to be bought at 10am today. However, she realised she couldn't go at the last minute so I pulled another 2 unfortunate friends of mine to go with me.

This was the promo (taken from cathay's website) :

Purchase 75 movie passes* at only $75!

Be among the first 75 patrons at The Cathay Cineplex (Level 5 box office)

From 1st October 2010

Terms & Conditions

Packages are available for sale only at The Cathay Cineplex.

Limited to the 1st 75 customers and are valid only while stocks last.
Limited to one (1) 75-movie pass package* per customer.
Not valid with other discounts and promotions at Cathay Cineplexes.
The Management reserves the right to amend any terms of this promotion without prior notice.

So we reached there about 2+ am (we actually went to cine first but realised it was wrong info given by jace, the person on duty there was not very helpful and didn't seem to know much about the promo either) and when my friend parked his car, we realised there was an entrance from the car park to the building. However, when we talked to the security guard we were told that people would only be allowed in from 9am onwards from ONE entrance to start queueing.

Thinking that the security would have it under control, we walked to the front of The Cathay where there was already a queue. The first group of people who were queueing were really nice and they told us that they wanted everything to be orderly and formed a queue. They even stuck a sign on the wall!!

This was way more efficient than Cathay management can ever hope to be. All they had was a sign at certain entries stating that doors open at 9am and ticket sales start at 10am, which is fine IF they actually acted according to the sign but..

3am. We talked, smoked, ate junk food.

4am. We played with our handphones.

5am. Our handphone batteries died. We grew restless.

6am. The queue grew longer, probably hit 75 people around that time. We were sleep deprived.

7am. Our butts and backs ached and we started counting down.

8am. Another guy in the queue spoke to all of us asking us to go into the building in a civilised manner as the first 75 of us in the queue outside had already written our names down on a list passed around by the first group to ensure we would get the tickets.

8.30am. The Cathay management finally let us queue outside the glass door entrance. By then, this was the queue.

Yes, it was already wayyy past 75 people but at least these people bothered queueing in an orderly manner.

9am. Two women from Cathay came and shouted fiercely at the front people. Could not really hear what they were saying but they were behaving like total bitches. Some people were trying to cut queue also. Anyway, finally the doors opened and we were all so happy that we would finally get what we waited for so long! Some people even ran up the escalators coz the lifts were overcrowded.

SO, can you imagine our total dismay and anger when we reached Level 5 and there were already like 100 over people in the queue?!!?! Omg I'm so pissed just thinking about it now la!!! How the hell did those people get up there if Cathay did their job and made sure that ONLY ONE ENTRANCE? Well, obviously not through that one entrance as we can see by the comments below.

Obviously we were unhappy. We queued for 8 freaking hours! Some of them even up to 12 hours!! We thought Cathay had a proper system. We thought wrong.

So we (the original 75 queueing) went to the front of the queue and started questioning the management. Words were shouted here and there and everyone was getting really upset and all the management could tell us was that they already had the first 75 people. Way to make an angry crowd even angrier, Cathay! Best part is, the 2 fierce looking Cathay women staff took the list of the 75 names and the Theatre Manager didn't even know who they (the staff) were when he was questioned!!! Laughable right? Since then the list has mysteriously disappeared and a new one has been made.

After lotsa chaos, Cathay called the police in (LOL) and the Theatre Manager, Mr Jeevan, said he would speak to afew of us to find out what was happening. We waited another TWO hours (during which the press from Straits Times and TNP came to interview us) while he talked to them and when he came out, he said he would escalate this issue and would email all of us within 48 hours with a satisfactory reply on this issue.

Honestly, the only satisfactory reply would be for us to have the tickets. And I really really hope they do coz I would hate to boycott Cathay, but trust me, I'm so angry I'd probably do it.

kuku kukup

HELLO!!! i'm here to dust some of the cobwebs off my blog again! haha. i don't know why i was filled with a sudden desire to blog..

was it coz i went to read a blog post on kukup and suddenly thought of my blog? was it coz i realised i haven't blogged for 1.5 months(!!!!!!!!)? or was it coz i just had the urge to write?

More pledges!

My parents have looked at my blog and they have decided to pledge too! Haha.

Here are their pledges..

My mum pledges to cook once a week (yay! i <3 home cooked food!!!!)

My dad pledges to bring us for family outings once a fortnight (movies movies movies!! and maybe cycling..)

Hope this coming family day will be a successful one!

Sunday, May 23, 2010

I pledge to spend more time with my family!

You know how I always go on and on about how we should spend more time with our family while we can? Well, sometimes I tend to forget that and recently I was thinking I must put aside at least 2 days of the week for them, especially my parents, since I already spend so much time with my brother.

Incidentally, Nuffnang is collaborating with the National Family Council and is giving away tickets to local attractions for a fun-filled family day to selected people who make the pledge!

So, my pledge is to spend at least one weekday and one weekend having dinner with my family and to visit my grandma at least once a fortnight. No matter how busy we are, we should all spend a little time with our families to bond because they are the most important people in our lives. I know I keep saying it but really, don't wait till its too late to regret.

NATIONAL FAMILY CELEBRATIONS 2010 (NFC 2010)

Organised by the National Family Council, National Family Celebrations is an annual event which celebrates and reinforces the importance of families and family life. This year, Singaporeans are encouraged to make a personal commitment to their families by being a part of the Singapore Family Pledge Movement.

To provide opportunities for Singaporeans to follow through on the pledges to their families, there are a myriad of activities under the NFC 2010 calendar – which will interest the young, the old, and everyone in between! NFC 2010 will be held from 25 May to 26 June 2010, and this year marks the 25th Anniversary of the Celebrations. For more information on NFC 2010, visit www.nfc.sg

mobile blogging

OMG THIS IS LIKE THE FIRST TIME I'M BLOGGING USING MY HP!!! SO FUN! lol. k la i know i very suaku.. =(

that said, i'm still gonna get an iphone once my contract is up! just to tell everyone its not really that great/gloat over the fact that i can finally not be the only human left not using one!

Why I Have Not Been Blogging Excuse #207

I don't have a computer to blog with!!!

Yes I know that sounds pathetic but its true ok!! My bro's laptop is spoiled, my shared computer which I'm using now is so freaking laggy it takes 75mins to watch an episode of [How I Met Your Mother] which is like 20mins, and I even tried going to blogger on my phone but it doesn't load. *sigh*

So here I am, testing my patience with this lousy computer, but its actually pretty ok today. I definitely can't load any photos though, will take forever. So I shall not promise to blog about the India trip but I will try k! If no posts about it in 3 months means no posts about it forever!

Congrats to Alifya and Nadeem though! Can't believe one of my girls is married!! Happy for her, scared for myself. LOL.

Other short updates..

Work is good! I will blog more about it another time but I like it coz time passes fast, my colleagues are nice (I have to say this coz they're stalking my blog haha[jk la they're really nice!]) and its FREAKING NEAR MY HOUSE!! Though I always don't go home after work.. Lol. But I miss my Jennie Lee Bao Bao!! Haha. And the other HSBC girls..

I saw JANG GEUN SUK!!! He's freaking hawt la!!!!!!!! Ok I think he deserves an entire post so will blog about that another time too.

Other than that, I'm back at BQ tentatively, I've been clubbing and L4D-ing as usual, don't really have much time for anything else.

Oh ya.. And I've watched almost every movie there is. Hahaha.

Keke, time to sleep soon. *sigh* I hate office hours.

Haha. Night!

the interview

Just came back from an interview. First thing i wanna get off my chest?

THE RECEPTIONIST WAS A TOTAL BITCH!

Ok, maybe she wasn't a bitch to me per se but she was just a bitch in general k! I walked in, smiled at her, told her I was looking for the HR person and she just looked back at me sour-faced(would have been quite pretty if she even gave a semblance of a smile), and took out four sheets of paper, passed them to me WITHOUT SAYING A WORD. I mean, ok la, its common sense that I should fill up the application form but shouldn't she at least tell me out of basic courtesy? God.

So I looked through the four pages and the first 2 were the basic details about yourself. Then I saw the next 2 pages I nearly fainted. One was a plain sheet of paper asking me to "write a paragraph about myself". That I could handle. The other one looked exactly the same but it was in chinese!! And I wasn't sure if the instructions were the same but I assumed they were from what little sense I could make out of it. After I finished filling up everything except the chinese form, I went to the receptionist and asked if I still needed to fill up the chinese form since I filled up the english one. Unfortunately, she said yes.

I spent the next 10 minutes thinking about what I knew how to write in chinese and ended up with one sentence. 我是一个很喜欢跟别人讲话的人. (I just looked for that whole sentence using online pin yin dictionary. My pin yin is actually damn good. If I could've written the description in pin yin I could've written alot more!) Anyway, I know it sucks but at least I attempted SOMETHING right?

Oh ya, one more thing I forgot to mention is that I REALLY wanted the job(coz its damn near my house, haha) thats why I put in so much effort. If it were any other job I would've probably fucked it and handed up a blank sheet of paper.

Anyway, after that was interviewed by the HR and then the project manager AND THEN still made to do a written test but I passed!! The HR exec told me I was shortlisted and would liase with the recruitment agency about the pay. =D

Pray that I get the pay I want k! Will update again soon!! =)

P.S. I know there's a possibility that the bitch in question might one day see this but well, hope not! Lol.
